Why do we now require 12+ credit hours prior to being listed in the online Member Professional Directory of Advocates/Educational Consultants?

What is a credit hour?
It is one hour of formal, professional training that is “related” to Special Education/Regular Education as well as other training in regard to any aspect of any disability by a recognized organization.
What kind of training is acceptable for credit?
Attendance at workshops by us, COPAA, the Federation of Children with Special Needs, conferences, presentations, or classes by other organizations related to Special Education are all acceptable. The following may not be counted towards your credit hours: lunch with a lawyer, consultation with a lawyer, teaching a class for FCSN or another organization or yourself, participating as a panelist in a workshop, reading a book.
If I am a newly trained Advocate/ Parent Consultant, can my name appear in the online Member Professional Directory of Advocates/Parent Consultants?
If you have completed more than 12 hours of training, then you may be listed in the Professional Directory. Examples of training include the Federation for Children with Special Needs or Wrightslaw Bootcamp.
How much time does an advocate have to collect 12+hours?
You must have completed 12+ hours within the 12 months preceeding your purchase or renewal of a membership.
How does an Advocate/Parent consultant provide documentation of the 12+ hours?
Documentation will only be needed if you are audited. We and other organizations often provide certificates of attendance. Online classes can be verified by printing the Members themselves must log onto their account and update their own training. Fortunately, most of the our workshops automatically populate the record. However, it doesn’t always.
Who does this requirement apply to?
This requirement applies to those who are actively working as an advocate/parent consultant and with to be listed in the professional directory.
Can I include more than one person on my listing?
Yes, but both people must pay the membership fee and obtain 12+ hours of of training.
What if my listing doesn’t show up on the website?
Check the accuracy of the information you submitted. Inaccurate information can cause the listing not to show up on the website.
