IEP Clinics and Mentor-ship Program
Seeking New and Experienced Advocates/ Parent Consultants
The Special Needs Advocacy Network facilitates several IEP Clinics throughout the programming year. These clinics provide parents with the opportunity to meet with an experienced Special Education Advocate/Parent Consultant to discuss their IEP concerns
Our goal is use the IEP Clinics as an opportunity for establishing a Mentorship Program. Newer advocates will partner with more experienced advocates to observe how to quickly assess the presented concerns, identify key regulations, and provide appropriate recommendations to guide parents in the right direction. We are seeking advocates willing to volunteer 1-2 hours as either a mentor or mentee. We hope to be able to secure a large group of volunteers that we can access as clinic opportunities are established.
Mentorship Program details/responsibilities (subject to modifications based on hosting agency requirements):
To make the most efficient use of these sessions, parents are encouraged to come prepared with their top 3 concerns and to bring a copy of their child's current IEP, recent evaluations and progress reports.
You must be a SPaN member to participate in this program. Listed above is our current clinic schedule. If you are interested in being included in our IEP Clinics and/or Mentorship Program, contact email@example.com or use the link above to sign up.
Are you interested in having SPaN Advocates present a clinic for your organization? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Case Discussion Groups
SPaN is pleased to present structured, in-person small-group discussion forum. The group is open to all current SPaN members whether you are new or seasoned advocates.
Drawing on our collective knowledge and experience to help each other to better serve our clients, the discussion format can be used to raise questions about the special education process, assist with technical information, brainstorm on strategy for particular cases, share local and national updates in special education, and raise any issues relevant to advocacy.

‘Thank you for today’s meeting. It was really great and very informative for me. I think these kinds of advocate meetings are really important.’
